PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Many people like to give back during the holidays, sometimes dropping off an extra Thanksgiving meal to people who might not have one of their own. One Valley group is hoping to stretch that giving spirit beyond the holiday season.

The Healthy Giving Council was formed nearly a decade ago, but its efforts really ramp up around the holidays, especially in downtown Phoenix. They have a message: giving is more than just a meal or a gift.

It’s an area in Downtown Phoenix some know as “The Zone,” but for Bill Morlan, it’s just his neighborhood.

“These people are my neighbors. I mean, as long as they live here, they’re my neighbors,” said Morlan, president of Electric Supply Incorporated near Jefferson and 7th avenues .
