A 'dangerous' driver who ploughed into a young woman walking her dog at 63mph has been jailed.

Lucy Atkins died after being hit by the speeding car, driven by Danielle Mitten, 34, in Quinton.

The family dog, a Lakeland Terrier called Simba, was also killed in the crash on West Boulevard on June 24 last year.

Prior to the crash, West Midlands Police established Mitten had been driving at up to 82mph, more than double the 40mph speed limit.

Mitten, of Baldwin Road, Birmingham , pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and was jailed for five years and four months on Friday, November 21.
