Anyone coming back to the UK after visiting Christmas markets in Europe risks fines of up to £5,000 thanks to new rules, a travel expert has warned. Jane Bolton from holiday operator, Erna Low , warns that travellers are being caught out by restrictions that ban some items people will be picking up at markets on the continent this festive season.
Popular items like cheeses, meats and festive snacks bought at Christmas marlets in Europe are banned at UK borders and you could be fined £5,000 for trying to bring them in - the ban includes Brie, Camembert, Manchego, Parma ham, Chorizo, pate, festive cheese selections and Christmas baked goods containing dairy.
