A bridge which has been closed for structural work since September last year and closed to vehicles for seven years could be lifted from the ground by heavy machinery. The grade II-listed Inglis Bridge in Monmouth, the only bridge of its kind which is for use by the public, is owned by the Ministry of Defence and was initially closed to vehicles in 2018 leading to demands for refurbishment from local residents and politicians.

It continued to serve as an essential pathway for pedestrians and cyclists travelling from Osbaston Road in Monmouth, across the River Monnow, to the Vauxhall Playing Fields until its closure.
