Some Greater Akron residents are reassessing their grocery needs as the cost of food remains high, but President Donald Trump's tariffs could mean an additional price hike at the checkout counter.

To help local shoppers see how tariffs could impact their grocery budget, the Beacon Journal will monitor the prices of 10 grocery essentials on a monthly basis.

In the future, the cost of each item — taking into account inflation and other contributing factors — may be assessed to see if and how tariffs have impacted grocery shopping in the Akron area.

We visited four area grocery stores to check the prices of grocery staples and fresh produce. The specific grocery store locations were:

Acme, 2147 East Ave., Akron.

Aldi, 772 S. Main St., Akron.

Giant Eagle, 484 E. Waterloo Road, Akron.
