Dear Prudence,

My girlfriend is a lovely, kind, and sweet hippie who subscribes to several causes, including some slightly controversial charitable organizations. One of the ways in which she supports them is by hitting up their merch store for all of her gifts. Sadly, not everyone appreciates them.

Some, like my mother, feel slighted because they feel that not a lot of thought went into their present. Others, especially our more conservative relatives, feel like she’s trolling them even though she is genuinely being sincere. I don’t even know if I should address this.
