Some drivers face paying "double" pay-per-mile rates from Wednesday as Labour Party Chancellor Rachel Reeves brings in new pay-per-mile car tax on Wednesday.

According to the latest AA Recharge Report for September, the average cost per mile to charge an EV using a domestic tariff is 5.88p per mile - nearly 6p. That means some drivers will be paying 6p to drive - as Ms Reeves brings in a 3p charge.

Report have emerged the Chancellor will announce road pricing for electric cars in her speech delivered to the Commons on 26 November. Ms Reeves is expected to rubberstamp road pricing for 2028, pending a public consultation.
