Investigators from around the state have traveled to Fairbanks to look into three homicides and an attempted murder, each of which occurred in the past month.
Alaska Bureau of Investigation (ABI) Commander Tony Wegrzyn said at a press conference Monday the number of incidents in the last month is somewhat rare for the region.
“Outside the municipality, for instance, of Anchorage, we don’t see two murders with two attempted murders alongside the murder of a 15-year-old or less than 30 days ago, in such close proximity in time and distance,” Wegrzyn said.
In response, the state is pooling resources to work the cases. After two suspected homicides occurred separately in the early hours of Nov. 22, Wegrzyn came to Fairbanks from Anchorage, bringing investigators with him.
