KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A 56-year-old Maynardville man was arrested after the Knoxville Police Department said he repeatedly tried to pay someone to bring him a child for sex.

Police arrested Mark Stenglein Monday afternoon near Magnolia Avenue and Gay Street following an investigation that ended with an undercover operation, KPD said.

A person told KPD officers they had been approached by a stranger, later identified as Stenglein, a few days before his arrest. He was driving a white Chevrolet Suburban and offered the person $100 if they could find him a child between 13 and 16 years old for sex.

The police department said the person got Stenglein's phone number and then gave that phone number to police.
