OXFORD, Ohio —
The Butler County Sheriff's Office is warning of a phone scam that involves a caller posing as law enforcement and seeking payment in exchange for bail.
In a post on the department's Facebook page, deputies say they received a call from Oxford police regarding the scam. Officials say a mother reporter her son was arrested by Oxford police and, the next day, received a call from a person claiming she could get her son out of jail and an ankle monitor if she paid more than $7,000. Officials say the scammer also said they could help the woman "clear up" a federal warrant if she sent additional money.
