Syracuse has been named the second-highest city in the nation where women are the primary breadwinners in opposite-sex coupled households, according to a recent report by the personal finance site LendingTree.

The Nov. 4 report, which draws from 2023 American Community Survey data, found that 29.5% of coupled households in the Syracuse metropolitan area have a female primary earner. This places the Salt City right behind New Haven, CT, which tops the list at 29.7%.

Nationally, women outearn their male partners in just over a quarter of households—specifically 25.7% across the 100 largest metropolitan areas surveyed.
