A fatal crash that killed 22-year-old Maryland resident Benjamin Thomas Mattingly has left loved ones shattered as tributes pour in across Charles County.
A 22-year-old Maryland man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Bryantown at around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, when his red Honda Accord went off the road and struck a tree, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
Officers responded to the area of Olivers Shop Road and Edelen Drive, where they found the driver, Port Tobacco resident Mattingly, outside the car.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.
Following his death, thoughtful tributes poured in from friends and family as they processed the news about the 22-year-old.
"For all of you asking, yes, this was Benjamin Thomas Mattingly. With that being said, please pray for our family, especially his mom and dad," Megan Rodgers said.
"He will be missed so much; however, his memories will live in our hearts."
"I love you, son... I hope you stepped into Heaven and are now living the best life... That phone call killed me. I love you, son. Rest in peace," Jim Tank Mattingly posted on Facebook.
"Ben Mattingly I will always love you..."
A GoFundMe set up for the Mattingly family has raised more than $1,500 in the days following his death.
"The pain this family is experiencing is unimaginable to me," Crystal Summers wrote. If you can help with funeral expenses in any way, it will be greatly appreciated from the bottom of our hearts."
"Ben, my buddy, you will be deeply missed."
