ALBANY — With the start of the 2025-26 ice hockey season only days away, the Section 2 Athletic Council and the Eastern New York chapter of the National Ice Hockey Officials Association (ENY NIHOA) have reached an impasse in negotiating a resolution to their months-long dispute surrounding a previously ratified agreement, according to statements obtained by the Daily Gazette on Monday afternoon.

The ENY NIHOA announced that it has filed formal challenges to the 2025–2029 Section 2 Officials’ Agreement with each of the New York State Commissioner of Education, the Office of the State Comptroller, the Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government, and the Attorney General’s Public Integrity Bureau, citing “months of unsuccessful attempts to resolve the matter directly with Section 2.”
