SAN DIEGO, California — Gramma, a Galápagos tortoise and the oldest known resident of the San Diego Zoo, has died at an estimated age of 141, CBS News reported .
Zoo officials said Gramma died on Nov. 20 after caretakers determined her declining bone condition, attributed to advanced age, made continued care unsustainable, according to the Los Angeles Times .
Born in her native Galápagos habitat and later arriving at the zoo between 1928 and 1931 as part of the facility’s first Galápagos tortoise group, she became a quiet but major fixture of the zoo grounds, 10 News San Diego reported .
