A Long Island man convicted of raping two members of his family, who were 5 and 12 years old at the time, is facing nearly 90 years in prison.
The 38-year-old man, from Patchogue, has not been named to protect the identity of his victims, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said in a statement. The man was found guilty Monday on a slew of charges, including first-degree rape and sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
Evidence offered throughout his trial confirmed the man began sexually abusing his daughte r in September 2013, when she was just 5 years old and in kindergarten, the district attorney said. The abuse continued for “several more years” because the man told the child that speaking up about it would ruin their family.
