There are fears in Merseyside plans by the UK government to introduce a digital ID “could risk criminalising thousands”. The plans are still in development, but the government said it would give people more control over their data.
The government said the scheme will “make it easier for people across the UK to use vital government services” as well as in the private sector . This includes renters proving their identity to landlords, improving access to health care, and making it easier to apply for free child care.
