OHIO, USA — While Lake Erie continues to face historic challenges regarding algae and runoff , researchers are reporting statistical improvements in water quality and a booming fishery, according to the latest update from the Ohio Sea Grant.
Dr. Chris Winslow, Director of the Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory, presented a webinar titled "Critical Issues and Emerging Threats Facing Lake Erie." The presentation covered a wide array of topics, ranging from the impact of climate change and plastic pollution to the effectiveness of the H2Ohio wetland projects.
According to a 2022 "State of the Great Lakes" report by the U.S. EPA and Environment and Climate Change Canada, Lake Erie was categorized as being in "poor" condition and "unchanging." However, Winslow noted that recent data sugges
