On a rainy November afternoon, with people wearing ponchos stuffing Thanksgiving food into nearby cars, Pirates president Travis Williams described what he hopes are brighter days ahead.
While also acknowledging the heat on himself, owner Bob Nutting and general manager Ben Cherington to field a winning team in 2026.
“Our goal and expectation is that we win and make the playoffs,” Williams told the Post-Gazette. “In order to do that, we have to be aggressive.”
Whatever form that aggressiveness takes is what could make this offseason different from any of the others during the Williams/Cherington regime, the Pirates aiming to be a lot more active via free agency and trades.
