Medora, N.D. — After a multi-million dollar restoration project, the South Unit Scenic Loop road in the south unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park has finally reopened. Senator John Hoeven, who helped secure $51 million for the necessary repairs, was on site in the park for an official ribbon cutting to mark the occasion.
Some access to the south unit of the park had still been in place, but 6.15 miles of the road had been closed since 2019. Hoeven’s office cited erosion as the reason for the initial damage.
Bryn Mclaughlin, a spokesperson for the National Park Foundation, confirmed that most of the funding came through the Foundation via the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA), which was enacted in 2020. Another $450,000 of the funding was received through the U.S. Department of Tran
