The Boulder County Coroner’s Office has identified the parachuter who died Nov. 16 near Longmont’s Vance Brand Municipal Airport as 60-year-old Takashi Koyama.
Personnel from the Hygiene Fire Protection District and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office responded that afternoon to a report that a parachuter was face down in a field and not breathing near the 10000 block of North 75th Street, which is just southwest of the airport, according to a news release
When first responders arrived, they administered CPR, but Koyama was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness reported seeing the man “descending quickly, in a spin” from a few hundred feet above the ground, according to the sheriff’s office release. The witness said it appeared the man’s parachute did not fully open.
