HERNDON, Va. — Four people were injured, one critically, after a car collided with an ambulance while the emergency vehicle had its lights on, police say.
The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Worldgate Drive at Alton Square.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department, the car struck the ambulance while the emergency lights were activated. The passenger in the car was taken to an area hospital in life-threatening condition. The driver was injured and is expected to survive.
Two firefighters were also taken to area hospitals for evaluation with minor injuries.
As of 5 p.m., Herndon Police are handling traffic control in the area, blocking off westbound Worldgate Drive at Alton Square. Police say the road will be closed for an undetermined period of tim
