Happy Thanksgiving (in two days)! Last week, I wrote about a pumpkin pie dilemma , and I wanted to share one of the responses I got to that column, because it made me chuckle, and who can’t use a little chuckle on the penultimate working day before Thanksgiving? Here it is:

Dear Lizzy,

I’m reminded of a Garrison Keillor quote on the subject: “The best pumpkin pie you ever ate wasn’t all that much different from the worst pumpkin pie you ever ate.”

He called it “a living symbol of mediocrity.” On that point, I must agree.

Also, when my two pals decided to bring a pumpkin pie to my house for Thanksgiving dinner, they realized after it was in the oven that they’d left out the sugar. They scooped it out, added the sugar, then put it back in the crust and baked it. Twice-
