LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Part of the legacy of former Kentucky Gov. Martha Layne Collins is the creation of the Governor’s School for the Arts .

“The legacy that Gov. Collins has left the commonwealth is something that is unmatched in the rest of the country, in and of itself,” said Jason Brooks, GSA director.

It was created in 1987 to give young artists throughout the Commonwealth an opportunity to cultivate their talents through a wide range of programs such as architecture, creative writing, dance, film and photography.

Brooks said Collins’ vision helped shape the culture of art within the state.
