YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – Deputies with the Yakima County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) and a crew with Yakima County Fire District 5 (YCFD#5) saved a man from drowning along I-82 in the Donald area today.
A passerby called 911 after spotting a 25-year-old man from the Parker area clinging to an overturned canoe in a pond. The man had been fishing with friends when the canoe flipped, but none of them had a phone to call for help, YCSO said in a release.
Deputies arrived and found the man in distress due to the cold water. YCFD#5 personnel also arrived to assist in the rescue. Some deputies, trained in water rescue, used equipment from their patrol vehicles to help.
The rescue team decided to tie several rescue ropes together and wade out to the man. They then secured him and pulled the group bac
