TOWN OF FAYETTE, Wis. (WKOW) -- Authorities in Lafayette County seized dozens of animals and arrested one woman as part of a neglect investigation.
On Tuesday morning, detectives and deputies from the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office searched a home on Highway G in the town of Fayette, northeast of Darlington. Sheriff Reg Gill said they found more than 40 dogs and one cat. Gill said the dogs were in various degrees of neglect.
The animals were taken to the Green County Humane Society. The humane society said it took in 55 dogs and the cat. That includes 26 puppies, which the humane society said were so new that their umbilical cords were still attached.
The organization's executive director said it was one of the largest intakes they've ever experienced.
