LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Staff at Blue Grass Airport are seeing passenger numbers increase as people begin their holiday travel.

The days leading up to Thanksgiving at the Blue Grass Airport have followed nationwide trends as the Federal Aviation Administration expects this holiday travel period to be the busiest in 15 years.

Community Relations Manager Lauren Simmerman said traveler volume at the airport began to pick up last week and continued through Tuesday. They’re seeing about 2,500 people a day leave Lexington to spend time with family or loved ones.

Simmerman is encouraging people to have patience as airports deal with the influx of passengers.
