DES MOINES, Iowa —

It's the busiest travel holiday of the year.

In AAA's West North Central Region, which includes Iowa, almost 6 million travelers will hit the road to spend the day with their loved ones.

But between Tuesday's wind advisory in Polk County and potential snow expected to hit this weekend, the Iowa DOT isn't taking a vacation.

"The biggest thing they're doing right now is monitoring the forecast," said Craig Bargfrede, Iowa DOT's Winter Operations Administrator.

Because the snow is still several days away, models aren't 100% accurate. Meaning it's unclear just how many garages will have to send out however many crews and plows.
