ALBANY — State troopers are investigating two of their own high-ranking members over allegations of using police credentials to gain special access at the recent Ryder Cup golf event at Bethpage Black in September, officials said Tuesday.
The probe centers on Deputy Superintendent R. Christopher West and Col. Darren Pitkin, the troopers' field commander, according to the Times Union of Albany, which first reported the investigation.
The agency, in a statement issued through its Albany headquarters, confirmed the probe:
"Superintendent (Steven G.) James has ordered an immediate investigation into actions taken by some executive staff members in relation to gaining admission to the Ryder Cup for themselves and family members. The superintendent has asked for the resignation of two execu
