PORTLAND, Ore. — A pedestrian has died after they were struck by a car on César E. Chávez Boulevard in Southeast Portland early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened between Southeast Market and Southeast Lincoln streets, Portland police confirmed.

The area will be closed for the investigation. According to early reports, the driver stayed on scene and has been cooperating with investigators.

Police didn't immediately identify the deceased. The cause of the crash is currently unknown.
