HOUSTON – An apartment complex in Houston’s East End was partially evacuated after several rail cars derailed, according to the Houston Fire Department.
The incident was reported at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday near Hughes Street and Harrisburg Boulevard.
Officials said approximately eight empty rail cars derailed. The train crew was not injured and there were no releases of chemicals.
HFD said a nearby apartment complex was partially evacuated out of caution.
Residents are asked to avoid the area due to road closures until the scene is cleared.
