SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - The holidays are a time of family, friends, traveling, but for some, the food and drinks could lead to a bigger problem.

Holiday Heart Syndrome, while sounding like a festive name , can be very troubling. It is a short-term abnormal heart rhythm. It gets its name from the increase in heart patients seen this time of year.

“There are different ways that it presents to providers. When we see them and piece everything together, we get all the vital signs, check the heart rate and ECG, and find that the patient had an irregular heart rhythm. On top of that, blood tests came back could present signs of congestive heart failure,” said Jian Liang Tan, MD, a Cardiac Electrophysiology specialist at Mercy Springfield.
