The Calgary Board of Education and its insurers have agreed to pay almost $16 million to settle a class-action lawsuit related to two former CBE employees at John Ware School between 1988 and 2004.
Under the settlement agreement, the CBE and its insurers will pay $15.77 million to the victims. The agreement still needs court approval.
The class-action suit , certified in January, had named former teacher Fred Henry Archer of High River, the estate of Michael Gregory, who also taught at John Ware, and the Calgary Board of Education as defendants. The suit alleged their involvement in the sexual, physical and psychological abuse that occurred at the school between 1988 and 2004.
