A Waterbury police detective who shot at a suspect after that suspect shot him in the leg in February was justified in firing his weapon, according to the Office of the Inspector General.

Detective Ronald Sackett and a sergeant responded to America Street on Feb. 13 to investigate a report that a car alarm was going off and three people were trying to break into a vehicle.

Police had received early reports of three masked men trying to steal cars in the area and a person reported one of the suspects pointed a gun at him.

After arriving in the area Sackett saw one of the suspects, later identified as Arian Perez-Feliciano, run to the rear of a home on Clairmont Avenue.
