CHEYENNE — Members of the Cheyenne City Council voted Monday to allow the city treasurer to write off almost $137,000 in uncollectible debts following some discussion about how to pursue debtors more aggressively.
The total amount in write-offs is $136,828.03, with $27,636.80 in uncollectible city accounts, $33,568.23 in Board of Public Utilities sanitation billings and $75,623 in unpaid parking tickets from 2021, according to the resolution’s supporting document . It further breaks down each debt amount by business and individual.
Pursuant to the city’s Resolution 4970, a debt is considered uncollectible when it is at least four years old, the customer is deceased or the debt has been discharged in bankruptcy. Writing off these debts is an annual requirement.
