The holidays bring plenty of good times and good food. As the season approaches, Renewable Water Resources (ReWa)— is reminding local residents that a little extra care with cooking and cleanup can prevent problems with pipes at home and throughout the wastewater system.

“In our world, we call it ‘FOG’ — fats, oils and grease,” said Karen Sprinkle, ReWa pretreatment commercial coordinator. “We want to keep as much of it as possible out of the drains.”

Sprinkle’s work typically focuses on restaurants and large establishments such as hospitals that serve food. She helps them interpret federal, state and local regulations to prevent issues that would result if FOG were to make it all the way to water resource recovery facilities.
