The Steinbach Aquatic Centre continues to see strong demand for programs and public swimming, and City Council heard this month that more school lessons and increasing resident participation are shaping operations heading into 2026.

Aquatic Centre Manager Jane Hansen reported that school lessons will expand again in January 2026. She said Hanover School Division reinstated funding for Grade 2 swimming lessons in fall 2024 after cutting the program for the 2023 to 2024 school year. With Parkhill School joining the schedule and Grunthal School returning after several years of using their local pool, the number of school lessons will rise next year.

Accommodating growth

Hansen told council the facility hires an average of 10 to 20 new staff each year and now employs a total of 59 people.
