A robber who did 'nothing to stop' a violent attack in front of his eyes has been locked up.

Richard Freeman 'acted like nothing was happening' when his accomplices carried out a brutal assault on their victim.

The 37-year-old locked a door to stop the terrified victim from escaping as the horrifying ordeal unfolded.

A court heard how the victim was tied up before being hit with a hammer and wooden plank.

He even had boiling water, as well as boiling water with sugar, cruelly poured on him.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard how Freeman was told to lock the door as two men stamped and kicked the victim.
