Alaskan families can now use SNAP benefits to buy hot, pre-cooked foods.
The USDA recently approved a “hot food waiver” at the request of Alaska’s Division of Public Assistance. This change comes as families affected by Typhoon Halong continue to face challenges, including limited access to cooking facilities.
With the waiver, SNAP recipients can purchase items like soup or breakfast sandwiches. The waiver will remain in effect through December 20th.
It’s a small but meaningful step to help families stay fed during a difficult time.
