What you should know amid £300 charge for drivers who do 10,000 miles a year
Introduction of a New Tax: A new pay-per-mile tax has been officially confirmed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves as a radical shake-up of motoring charges. This new system is designed to directly link the tax paid by motorists to the distance they travel.
Targeted Vehicle Types: The new tax specifically targets the owners of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles. These vehicles previously did not contribute to national funds through traditional fuel duty.
Charge Rate for EVs: Owners of fully electric vehicles will be charged at a rate of 3p per mile driven. This new charge will mean that someone driving 10,000 miles a year will incur an annual charge of £300.
