OTTAWA — Just hours after the federal government signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the province of Alberta, Canada’s former environment minister and noted environmental activist has resigned from cabinet.

Word came down late Thursday afternoon in Ottawa that Canadian Identity and Culture Minister Steven Guilbeault would resign from Mark Carney’s cabinet, a move that reportedly came after an “honest and candid” conversation with the Prime Minister over the federal government’s MOU .
