Hundreds of volunteers from across Allegheny County came together to deliver Thanksgiving meals to people in need on Thursday.
At the Salvation Army in Dormont, volunteers prepared 1,000 Thanksgiving meals for 38 senior living facilities, marking the third consecutive year of this initiative. Advertisement
"A lot of seniors who don't have families to share the holiday with," said Lauren Fair, divisional social services director for the Salvation Army. "Especially this year, there is an increased need for food assistance. We're seeing a big increase in that need. So this is our way of not only giving them a meal, but letting them know we see them and we're here for them."
