HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - Shoppers are being warned about an increase in online scams as Black Friday and Cyber Monday approach.

Around 197 million people shopped on Black Friday and Cyber Monday last year. This year, more people are expected to shop online and on social media, creating a higher chance consumers will fall for scams.

“This is a big issue and people need to be very careful where they buy online,” said Yoav Keren, CEO of BrandShield.

AI making scams more sophisticated

Keren said online shoppers are getting scammed now more than ever, with AI being a major factor.

“What we’re seeing now is that scammers use AI tools to create enormous amount of fake content whether these are websites that look very similar to the brands, very convincing content, images that look real,” Ker
