NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) - More than 200 volunteers came together at Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen on Thanksgiving to serve about 600 people across Connecticut.

The day started early at Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen, also known as DESK, as volunteers handed out pre-made meals filled with Thanksgiving essentials. Sisters Renee and Michelle Massaro spent part of their Thanksgiving helping deliver meals to families in need.

“I have done it in the past and this is the perfect holiday, this is what it’s all about,” said Renee Massaro of New Haven.

Paul and Martha Neeven were among other volunteers who helped out, planning to make this a new Thanksgiving tradition.

“Especially this year with everything happening in the world, it was more important to do this,” said Martha Neeven of East Hadda
