OMAHA, Neb. —
The Salvation Army's 35th annual Turkey Fest in Omaha ensured hundreds of seniors received warm Thanksgiving meals, thanks to the efforts of dedicated volunteers.
The group began cooking on Saturday to be prepared for the big day.
"We do about 150 birds. You know, it's about 100 pounds of stuffing, 100 and some pounds of potatoes, and about 60 gallons of gravy. Green beans, 120 pounds. So it's a massive undertaking," said Kevin Newlin, Turkey Fest chef.
Starting around 5 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, volunteers formed multiple assembly lines to pack all of the meals, down to the cranberry sauce and dinner rolls.
