HUMBOLDT, Iowa —
Authorities have identified the man who died after a rollover crash Wednesday afternoon in Humboldt County .
According to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, a 2020 Ford Edge was eastbound on Highway 3, also known as 220th Street, outside of Humboldt. Shortly after 1 p.m., the vehicle crossed the center line before the driver overcorrected, entering the ditch and rolling several times.
The driver was identified Thursday as Paul Bengtson, 83, of Storm Lake.
According to the latest data from the Iowa Department of Transportation , 248 people have died so far this year on Iowa roads. That number is 61 fewer than at the same point in 2024. Over the last five years, an average of 353 people have been killed in statewide crashes annually.
