WAHIAWA (HawaiiNewsNow) - For many families, it’s tradition to go shopping for a Christmas tree either before or after Thanksgiving, making it the busiest time of the year for one farm in Wahiawa.
There are thousands of trees at Helemano Farms along Whitmore Avenue in Wahiawa.
“We have over, in the ground right now, we have over 12,000 trees,” said owner Aaron O’Brien.
The holidays in the islands look a bit different from the continent, but O’Brien’s father, Mike, had a vision.
“My dad started Helemano Farms, and he wanted to kind of bring what he had in his childhood, where people could come pick their tree and have the experience,” O’Brien said.
His dad is from California and moved to Hawaii to work for Dole in 1967. He began work on the farm in 2002.
