MORTON, Ill. (25 News) – The Morton Fire Department said a local auto shop that caught fire Thanksgiving morning is a total loss.
Fire Chief Justin Hale said that the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating what caused the large fire, first noticed around 10 a.m. Thursday by people who live and work in the area.
Heavy black smoke could be seen for miles above Dan Kniep’s Complete Auto & Motor Sports at 4001 W. Jackson Street.
Hale said no injuries were reported.
Owner Dan Kniep said the business was closed for Thanksgiving. He told 25 News he’s been in business for 30 years, about the last five years at the W. Jackson Street location.
