BRAINTREE, Mass. —

The holiday shopping season is in full swing as stores across Massachusetts welcomed Black Friday shoppers eager for deals.

Doors opened at 6 a.m. at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree.

Data from the National Retail Federation shows shoppers are expected to spend about $1.01 trillion between November and December. That is around 3% to 4% more than last year.

Online retailers like Walmart and Amazon have been offering Black Friday deals for days.

Economists said many of those retailers have also managed to absorb costs from inflation, tariffs and economic uncertainty from the record-long government shutdown.

Consumers have not slowed down, either. Adobe Analytics data found that Americans have spent about $80 million since the beginning of November.
