The worst of a brewing winter storm is expected to hit northern Illinois on Saturday.
A winter storm warning has been issued from 3 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday by the National Weather Service.
There’s a 70% chance the metro area could be hit with 6 to 10 inches of snow, according to the latest forecast.
Snowfall was expected to begin Friday night and intensify Saturday morning, forecasters said. The rate of snowfall may peak at one inch per hour Saturday afternoon, according to the weather service.
The Weather Service urged people to reschedule travel plans to a day other than Saturday.
“Travel could be very difficult,” the Weather Service said in its storm warning.
