Metro Detroiters should get out their snow shovels if they haven't yet, as the first significant snowfall of the season is expected on Saturday, Nov. 29.

NWS meteorologist Steve Freitag said if a similar amount of snow falls within a 6-hour time frame, it can trigger a winter weather advisory. There is no winter weather advisory this weekend, because the snow is spread over a longer duration. It's a pretty standard Michigan snowstorm, he said.
Freitag said the snow rate is expected to be about a half-inch per hour.
